Horsie Photos

Posted in horses with tags , , , , , on January 8, 2009 by Sue Myers Smith

Some of these are already on our Web site, but I really dig them, so they’re going on the blog as well!

Kim out feeding the horses.

What I really like about this image is that it captures Kim in an unguarded, natural moment. She had just dumped a horse’s feed in the bucket and was mixing it for him.

Sioux's face and eye, close-up

This is one of my constant favorites; I really loved the way that the black and white images I shot with the Mamiya RZ67 all turned out. The detail you can achieve on the film is just incredible. I love this image because it reminds me of staring into Sioux’s eyes during a quiet moment. He’s a great – but sometimes mischievous – horse, with a rocking gait and a love for running through the woods.

Wild onions in the field, view from below

People always want to know just what the heck these things are. It’s a new perspective for most people. I was practically on the ground to get this shot, keeping the onion tops in the sky rather than against the background of trees in which they’d be lost. I especially like the out-of-focus onion top, which a lot of people view as some kind of thing from outer space. Others’ reactions to this image always make me chuckle, and personally, I just love the composition and simplicity of this image.

Welcome to our photo blog!

Posted in Introduction with tags , , , , on November 13, 2008 by Sue Myers Smith

Seven Stories Photography is comprised of Beth Newman and Sue Myers Smith, located in Athens, Georgia. We are wedding, special event, equine and “other” photographers, and cover all of Georgia, as well as surrounding states in the Southeast. Beth and Sue both enjoy U.S. and international travel, so we welcome inquiries from around the globe!

From Sue:

When I was 11, I received my first camera and took pictures of everything! I have taken many classes and shot a lot of photos since then. I recently completed the photography coursework for my bachelor of fine arts in photography at the University of Georgia.

I really hope you enjoy viewing my photos! I will do my best to tag them so you can search for specific styles or people/places/horses.

From Beth:

Ever since I was little girl, I have loved to watch people; the way they interact, the facial expressions, all of it.  Then I walked into my first photography darkroom in my second year of college.  I was in love.  My ultimate goal with every portrait is to make my subject comfortable and relaxed as well as give him/her a unique photo and experience.   I also recently completed the photography program with my bachelor of fine arts in photography at the University of Georgia (that’s where Sue and I met).

Please feel free to contact us if you need a photographer for your wedding or special event. We are happy to customize a package or plan just for you, whether you need digital files only or prints and albums for your whole family.
